Overview

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Construction Supervisor to oversee and manage all construction activities at our clients’ site based in Grays, Essex. The ideal candidate will have experience within Petrochemical, Process or Chemical industries. You will take ownership of the safe delivery of multi-discipline projects and ensure strict compliance with industry standards and health and safety legislation. This permanent staff role emphasises the importance of safety management and quality assurance, making this an excellent opportunity for those looking to positively impact safety and operational excellence at a dynamic site.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing site contractors, reviewing risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), issuing permits to work, and performing regular safety audits. This role is key to ensuring proper coordination across a diverse range of construction activities, including piping, mechanical, electrical, civil works, scaffolding, tank outage inspection/repairs (confined spaces), and lifting operations.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety Management

  • Champion a strong safety culture on site, ensuring strict compliance with all health and safety regulations and legislation.
  • Review contractor RAMS, ensuring all activities are safe and meet required standards.
  • Issue and oversee permit to work systems for contractors operating on-site.
  • Perform regular permit to work audits and proactively address any areas of non-compliance.
  • Conduct site safety inspections and prepare detailed, actionable safety reports.

Construction Oversight

  • Lead the safe management of all construction activities across the site, ensuring alignment with terminal and industry standards.
  • Oversee a wide range of multi-discipline activities, such as piping, mechanical, electrical, and civil works, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
  • Manage tank outage inspection and repair works, including confined space activities.
  • Coordinate and supervise lifting operations and scaffolding works to industry best practices.

Contractor Coordination

  • Act as the primary point of contact for contractors working on-site, providing timely direction and support.
  • Manage contractor workflows and ensure tasks are carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Foster productive working relationships between contractors, internal teams, and stakeholders.

Reporting and Compliance

  • Monitor, document, and report on all construction activities, including safety, progress, and compliance highlights.
  • Present regular updates to project managers and senior leadership.
  • Maintain accurate records of permits issued and audits conducted.

About You

The ideal candidate for this role is a proactive, safety-focused professional with a background in construction supervision across multi-discipline projects. They must bring not only technical expertise but also a demonstrable commitment to fostering a culture of safety, compliance, and teamwork.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience in managing multi-discipline construction activities, including mechanical, piping, electrical, and civil works.
  • Extensive knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices within construction environments.
  • Experience issuing and managing permit to work systems.
  • Familiarity with confined space works, scaffolding, and lifting operations.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with experience managing contractors and working collaboratively with internal teams.

Desirable Skills & Certifications

  • Nebosh/IOSH qualification or equivalent safety certification.
  • Strong understanding of RAMS development and review.
  • Knowledge of terminal or similar industry standards is highly desirable.
